Our Story
Kitten Kingdom SA began with a simple yet profound passion: a love for pedigree felines and a desire to elevate breeding standards in South Africa. Based in the green, tranquil suburb of Newlands, Cape Town, we have spent years carefully establishing a home cattery focused on raising premium Bengal, Birman, British Shorthair, Persian, Maine Coon, Sphynx, Ragdoll, and Siamese cats.
What started as a small, personal endeavor has grown into a highly respected and fully registered breeding facility. As active registered members of the Southern Africa Cat Council (SACC) and CASA, we raise our cats as members of our household. We do not cage our animals; they roam freely in our spacious home, sleeping on our beds and playing in our living areas, which results in exceptionally friendly, socialized felines.
Our Breeding Philosophy
Our philosophy centers on three pillars: **Health, Temperament, and Breed Standard Conformity**. We believe that breeding is a long-term commitment to improving the lives of cats and the families who adopt them.
We selectively match breeding pairs based not just on their physical beauty, but on their genetic clearance reports, lineage pedigree depth, and stable temperaments. Our objective is to raise felines that represent their breed standards perfectly, ensuring they are sweet-tempered, confident, and highly affectionate pets.
Strict Health Standards
100% DNA Tested Breeding Lines
Every single breeding cat in our cattery undergoes extensive genetic testing. We screen for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK-Def). Any cat carrying a hereditary disorder is immediately excluded from our breeding program.
In addition to genetic screening, our kittens receive two rounds of core vaccinations (3-in-1 vaccines) administered at 8 and 12 weeks of age. They are de-wormed bi-weekly from birth, microchipped with internationally readable chips, and cleared by our trusted local veterinary team before they leave for their new homes.
Our Socialization Process
A pedigree cat must be well-socialized to adapt smoothly to its new family. Our kittens are handled daily from birth. They are raised in our main living areas, which means they grow up accustomed to normal household noises like vacuum cleaners, televisions, and chatter.
We also expose them to children and friendly household dogs under supervision. This early socialization helps ensure our kittens grow into confident, friendly, and well-adjusted pets who are comfortable with guests, children, and other household animals.
Ethics First
We strictly limit the number of litters each queen produces, ensuring our breeding mothers lead healthy, relaxed lives. Retired breeding cats are desexed and placed in pampered forever pet homes.
