Everything You Need to Know About Adopting a Pedigree Kitten in South Africa
Kitten Breeder FAQ
To adopt a kitten, start by completing our online Adoption Application Form. We review details about your home, family, and experience with pets. Once approved, we discuss breed compatibility and available kittens. If you find a kitten you love, you can reserve them with a booking deposit.
Purebred kitten prices vary by breed, pedigree lineage, and whether they are adopted as pets or for breeding. Generally, pet-only prices range from R8,500 (Siamese/Birman) to R18,000+ (Maine Coon/Bengal). Inquire directly for specific kitten prices.
Booking deposits are non-refundable but fully transferable. If your circumstances change, or you decide to wait, you can apply your deposit to a future litter of any breed we offer within 12 months.
Our adoption fee includes SACC or CASA pedigree registration registration papers, two rounds of vaccinations, microchipping, de-worming, a comprehensive veterinary check, a written health guarantee, a kitten starter kit (food, toys, blanket with mother's scent), and lifetime breeder advice.
We primarily sell kittens as pets, which means they are subject to a strict spay/neuter contract. Breeding rights are only sold to registered, ethical breeders who are members of SACC, CASA, or international associations, subject to vetting and contract terms.
Yes! We maintain a waiting list for upcoming litters. By paying a waiting list fee, you secure your priority position to choose a kitten from upcoming litters in order of deposit received.
Our kittens are ready to go to their new homes between 12 and 14 weeks of age. This ensures they are fully vaccinated, vet-cleared, socialized, and physically developed enough to handle the transition.
We want our kittens to thrive. If, for any reason, you cannot keep your cat, our contract states that the cat must be returned to us. We will assist in re-homing. No kitten from our cattery should ever end up in a shelter.
Yes. We encourage adopting siblings as they keep each other company. We offer a sibling discount on the second kitten's adoption fee when adopted together.
Our Available Kittens page is updated in real-time. Kittens are marked as "Available," "Reserved" (deposit paid), or "Under Evaluation" (being assessed for breeding/show). You can submit an inquiry directly from the kitten's profile.
Yes. All kittens receive their primary core vaccinations (3-in-1 vaccine covering Feline Panleukopenia, Herpesvirus, and Calicivirus) at 8 and 12 weeks of age. The vaccination card is provided upon adoption.
Yes, genetic health is our top priority. Our breeding cats are DNA tested for breed-specific hereditary conditions, including HCM (heart), PKD (kidney), SMA, and PK-Def. Only healthy cats are bred.
HCM is a genetic heart condition where the heart walls thicken, affecting function. We perform DNA screening on our breeding stock and conduct regular cardiac ultrasounds to prevent passing this gene to kittens.
PKD is a genetic disorder where cysts form in the kidneys, potentially leading to renal failure. It is common in Persians and British Shorthairs. All our breeding stock is DNA tested negative for PKD.
Yes. Every kitten is microchipped with a high-quality ISO-compliant microchip. We register the microchip with your details in the national database upon adoption.
Yes, kittens are spayed or neutered before leaving our cattery (early spay/neuter, usually around 12 weeks) or sold under a strict contract requiring spaying/neutering by 6 months of age, with registration papers held until proof is provided.
Our kittens come with a health guarantee. If your kitten shows symptoms within the first few days, contact us and your vet immediately. We cover veterinary fees for covered genetic conditions under our guarantee terms.
Adult cats require a 3-in-1 booster vaccination every 1 to 3 years, depending on your vet's advice and your cat's lifestyle. Rabies vaccinations are required by law in South Africa and must be kept up-to-date.
Yes. Kittens are de-wormed starting at 4 weeks of age, repeated every 2 weeks until they leave our cattery. We recommend continuing de-worming every 3 months for adult indoor cats.
Purebred cats can be predisposed to genetic diseases, but responsible breeders use genetic testing to eliminate these risks. A well-bred pedigree kitten from a registered breeder is often healthier than a mixed-breed cat with unknown health histories.
Yes, we offer safe, registered pet delivery to all major cities in South Africa, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), Bloemfontein, East London, and George.
Kittens fly in pressurized, temperature-controlled cargo compartments specifically designed for live animals. They are housed in comfortable Pet Lounges at the airport before boarding and are handled by trained staff.
Yes, local adoptions in Cape Town can be collected directly from our cattery in Newlands. We arrange a collection appointment where we go over the kitten's health files and care guidelines.
Yes. We partner with registered, professional road pet couriers that provide air-conditioned, monitored pet transport throughout South Africa. This is a great door-to-door option.
We prepare our kittens for travel by introducing them to crates early. The travel process is kept short and quiet, and most kittens sleep during the journey. They arrive alert and adapt quickly.
We handle all logistics, including veterinary health certificates, flight bookings, and transport tags. Your kitten travels with its official veterinary health booklet.
Yes, we can arrange international transport to approved homes. This requires additional veterinary checks, blood tests, and permits, which vary by country. Contact us for details.
We use airline-approved plastic pet carriers with secure metal doors. The carrier is lined with absorbent bedding, a toy, and water/food cups. The carrier is yours to keep.
Yes. All our kittens are registered with either the Southern Africa Cat Council (SACC) or the Cat Association of Southern Africa (CASA). You receive official pedigree registration papers.
The SACC is the primary registration body for pedigree cats in South Africa. They maintain breed standards, register litters, and license cat shows, ensuring breeding practices are ethical.
Both are reputable registries in South Africa. SACC is affiliated with the World Cat Congress (WCC), while CASA is affiliated with the World Cat Federation (WCF). We register our kittens with both bodies.
Registration papers are processed and sent to you once we receive proof of spay/neuter from your vet (usually around 6 months of age), unless the kitten was spayed/neutered before leaving.
A pedigree cat is a purebred cat whose ancestry is documented over at least four generations in an official registry, ensuring the cat conforms to specific physical and temperamental standards.
Registration proves the kitten is purebred, ethically bred, and that the parents have been screened. It protects buyers from backyard breeders who often raise cats in poor conditions without health checks.
Yes! If you are interested in showing your cat, let us know. We can help you select a "show-quality" kitten that closely matches breed standards and guide you on entering SACC or CASA shows.
We raise our kittens on premium, protein-rich diets (a combination of high-quality dry kibble and wet canned food). We provide a food sample and a detailed feeding guide in your starter pack.
Yes. All kittens are fully litter trained before leaving our cattery. They are introduced to litter boxes at 4 weeks of age and use them reliably.
Our health guarantee requires that our kittens be kept as indoor-only pets, or allowed outside only in a secure, enclosed catio or on a harness/leash. This protects them from traffic, toxins, diseases, and injuries.
Keep the new kitten in a separate room for the first few days. Exchange scent items (blankets) between pets. Slowly introduce them through a cracked door, then under supervision. Patience is key.
Interactive feather wands, laser pointers, rolling balls, and puzzle toys are excellent. Avoid toys with small parts or strings that could be swallowed. Scratching posts are essential.
Provide multiple scratching posts and cardboard scratchers. Place them near furniture the cat might scratch. Praise your kitten for using the post, and use catnip spray to attract them.
Cats need fresh water daily. Because they have a low thirst drive, feeding wet food is important. Cat water fountains are great for encouraging cats to drink more water.
Place the litter box in a quiet, accessible location. The general rule is to have one box per cat, plus one extra. Clean the box daily and wash it weekly.
No. While they have a wild look inherited from the Asian Leopard Cat, domestic Bengals (F4 and later) are fully domestic, affectionate, and safe companions. They are energetic and playful, not aggressive.
Maine Coons are the largest domestic breed. Males can weigh 8 to 12 kg, and females 5 to 8 kg. They can grow up to 1 meter long and take 4 to 5 years to reach full size.
Yes. Although hairless, they require weekly or bi-weekly baths, weekly ear cleaning, and nail bed cleaning to manage skin oils that are normally absorbed by fur.
Yes, their long, luxurious coat requires daily combing to prevent matting, and their eyes should be wiped daily to prevent staining from tear duct overflow.
British Shorthairs are affectionate but independent. They prefer sitting next to you rather than on your lap, and they appreciate having their own space.
Yes, Siamese are famous for being highly vocal. They communicate in a loud, raspy voice and enjoy holding conversations with their owners.
It is a unique genetic trait. Ragdolls are extremely relaxed and docile, which causes them to relax their muscles and go limp like a ragdoll when picked up.
